CCD Selection Guide

The CCDs used in the Cryocam are manufactured by EEV, Kodak, Lockheed Martin, SITe, Texas Instruments and others. In our camera model numbering system, "L" designates Lockheed Martin, "S" designates SITe, "T" designates Texas Instruments, etc. We have selected popular scientific grade CCDs and offer them here for comparison. The Cryocam can support others as well.

The main factors to be considered in the selection of a CCD are:

  • Image area - the physical size of the imaging portion of the device
  • Pixel Size - the physical size of the pixel
  • Resolution - the number of pixels
  • Quantum Efficiency - the ability to convert photons into electrons
  • Spectral Response - the quantum efficiency at various wavelengths
Use the following data to determine the best device for your application.
